To be honest with you there are a few more disadvantages than more advantages. First off there is the distance it self, you need to have complete trust with each other. If you have faith in your relationship then you will have to deal with missing your loved one. You will need to have open communicating be mature about your feelings and issues and let the other person know exactly how you feel.

Another disadvantage is that you will be constantly thinking about the other person; sometimes these are good thoughts sometimes they are bad, but you have to remember that they are only thoughts. This is where the trust comes in. And sometimes you will be prevented from going out or doing things you want to do because you feel compelled to stay and talk with the other. You have to remember to get out and live your life.

Do not become isolated because the other person is anti-social this is there choice. If you don’t live your life you will become deeply depressed and this will cause problems within your relationship. However, you must also act as if you are in a relationship even when the other is not there and sometimes the temptation can be strong. Are you strong enough to resist the urge the “DEVIL” will put in your path?

The advantage: your relationship will grow if you make it through this. This is why I continue to express the need to communicate constantly; that aspect of your relationship will develop. The greatest part of a long distance relationship is the moment that you see each other. You will be so happy and over whelmed that you will not want to let go of the other. This feeling is indescribable.

Can long distance relationships really work out?

Yes, and they work out great! I've been in a long distance marriage for 8 years. I’m married to a Truck Driver which is the same thing as long distance relationships. We are apart for months, weeks, and days at a time it depends on which cities his loads are in. I have four kids to rise on my own and my husband comes home on the weekends when he can. When he does he comes late Friday night. We spend all Saturday with him and he leaves out Sunday evening. It works for us because I’m very independent and don’t need a man around me 24- 7. Plus it keeps our married alive and we are so excited to see each other when he does come home. We talk at least 7 times a day texting, sending photos, and just talking to one another. We are best friends! It works for us but this life isn’t for everyone. My advice to you is

Communicate in some way every day.

Take advantage of the benefits a long distance relationship offers: more time with friends and/or family, no arguments over the T.V or unhealthy dinners that make you fat and doesn’t do a thing to his wasitline.

Try to make the time to visit each other as often as possible or as often as your budget permits you to. I sometimes ride with my husband over the road this gives me a little mini vaction plus we are together and he didn’t have to take off from worki to do so. Money in the bank plus time togther!!!

Staying positive and not focusing on the negative aspects of a long-distance relationship is essential to keeping your relationship blooming and your partner content. Use the opportunity of personal time to pursue your interests and hobbies as well as your career objectives.

Avoid jealousy and be trusting. When you start a long distance relationship, you must be realistic of the difficulties ahead. It helps to have your eyes open and not be totally naive, but being overly suspicious is unhealthy for you and your relationship too. Have faith and trust your partner by keeping the lines of communicating open you can learn a lot. If you can’t do this and you are constantly worrying about what your partner is doing you will fail it will never work. Not only are you pushing your partner away but you are manifesting what you don’t want by worrying about it. Stay focus and postive.

Sympathy for the Truck Drivers

My thoughts on car drivers…

Okay my husband was stuck in the Baltimore, Maryland/ Washington D.C blizzard last week. From my understanding it snowed like crazy and the cars had no sympathy for all of the trucks that were trying there best to make it up the hills while stopping and going while cars went in and out of traffic.

For those of you who don’t know…

Trucks are different from cars they have a long trailer behind them that slips and slides when trying to pull up a hill. Car drivers stop and think for a minute. If it’s pouring down snowing or raining is it safe for you or fair to other drivers to drive in and out of cars? No one can see!

Think of others while driving! You aren’t going to get to your destination any quicker by dodging in and out of traffic. Truck drivers, to me, deserve more because without them we wouldn’t have any fright to buy or sell. They make it happen by transporting fright from one point to another everyday, good or bad whether.

So with that, please practice safe driving first. So we all can get home safely. May God bless you all and your families!

Get hair done.

Basic Things you need to Know about Truck Drivers

Long hours away from home.

Truck drivers have DOT rules to follow which limit drive time. So if you’re looking to make as much as you can expect to be putting in very long days while you’re out there. This means a lot of time away from family! Trucking is no 9-5 job so your spouse needs to be open minded and very independent.

Driving through bad weather.

Use commonsense, if you aren’t comfortable driving don’t drive. Don’t jeopardize your life and the life of others trying to push through heavy snow and ice or hurricane weather. Safety first!!!

Eat Truck Stop Food.

I’ve been on many trips with my husband and the restaurants in the truck stop aren’t that bad. However, you will get tired of fast food and eating out. On your next trip home pack a couple days worth of home cook meals that you can enjoy. Keep a refrigerator or cooler in the truck for these items. You can always heat then up at the truck stops or when you get to your next stop.

Self Entertainment.

If you have a layover. Every city has something to do and see. The problem you will have is parking. Find a safe legal place to park your rig or take a cab to the movies. You have options you don’t have to hang around the truck stop the entire time, get out and live a little.

Meeting Interesting People.

You will meet plenty of clowns and shit talker over the road. Some people are sincere looking for there next opportunity, and some just out there looking for their next adventure. If you keep an open mind let loose a little you will adjust to the trucking industry.

Adjusting to having two lifestyles.

It can be challenging to having a loner lifestyle outside of your family lifestyle. At times it may seem weird to come home in relate to what everyone else is doing. Just look at it as you having the experience and the best of both worlds.

Dealing with Layovers

Sometimes it can be very difficult dealing with a husband who supposes to come home to a kid birthday, but calls back in say he can’t make it. I’ve been with my husband from the beginning of his career as a trucker and I’ve seen and heard it all. Yes, it stinks!

To be honest, “I did not want to hear the crap; he has to say, about not being able to come home.” Truckers always have a story!

Although I also understand the business and been over the road with him so I know what he has to go through when dealing with certain people. So my advice to you ladies is

How to stay Awake Driving a Semi-Truck

Driving an 18-wheeler can be challenging, although it’s your responsibility to get the load to the customer on time, here are a few ways to stay awake while driving a semi-truck.

Try to get as comfortable as possible, if you feel it getting more difficult to stay awake, turn on the Ac so that you’re cold, it can be hard to stay awake if you are in a warm environment, cold air should help you stay awake while driving.

When you driver’s stop off to get fuel, you tend to stock up on food, just in case you can’t stop again, this okay. However, I would advise you not to fill your stomach. Keeping your stomach a little empty will make it much easier to stay awake.

If it start to get too difficult turn up the radio, or put in a CD, listen to some loud up beat music that will keep you from falling asleep, sing aloud with it that will get you up.

Another way to stay awake while driving a semi truck is to stop for a break. I know driver’s press for time in this can be hard to do. Realistically it is worth the effort or get into a wreck.

Driving a truck for 11 hours a day or more 5-7 days a week can get exhausting. Although being up different times a day in different time zones can cause your body to be off balance. If you are having trouble drifting off to sleep at night or day. Here are a few quick ways you can fall asleep quickly?

Following a regular sleep schedule would help with the problem. However since a trucker’s schedule is unpredictable your only choice is to take a relaxing shower! Take a cooler in the summer and a warmer one during the winter.

Try to stay away from food and beverage that contain sugar and caffeine. These items interfere with sleep.

Buy yourself a comfortable pillow and invest in a good bed-set “bed in the bag” from Wal-Mart or Targets works well. I know it’s a big rig! But hey you need to sleep so make your truck as comfortable as your bedroom at home. Invest in the bed in the bag, you won’t regret!
Make your environment comfortable, the truck should be kept dark, quiet, and not too warm or too cold. Get rid of noises. I know at the truck stops it could be disturbing people banging on your door and lets not forget about the “lizards.” Pull your curtain, turn on a fan and wear ear plugs.

If this doesn’t help, breathe deeply. Inhale until your lungs are full, pause a few seconds then exhale completely. By doing this about 10 times and now you should be starting to fall into the sleep zone.

Don’t rob your body of any sleep you want be any good if you are moody, tried and stressed out.

Get a basket and place some nice colored tissue paper, into the basket for padding. Into this basket, you will be placing all the items in the following steps.

An interesting book to read, of your choice, this will keep her busy and her mind off being alone.

On a nice stationary, or printed on nice paper, write down your contact information, home phone, or cell. Let her know that you understand how lonely it can be with her better half gone all of the time, and whenever she likes she can come over, call, or you would love to have lunch, dinner, or a workout session at the local gym. This will get her out of the house.

If you both have kids, offer to have kid’s night at your home, or to take the kids out to the park one day. It can get really stressful doing everything without help and no break from the whining and crying.

Just the thought of stepping out into the Trucker Industry can send shivers down the spine of even the most independent wife. As a husband, you may feel helpless but you are not. There are some simple things that you can do that will make the first trip over the road easier on your wife.

Take your wife to the office with you, this will give her the opportunity to get to know the staff, and take a tour of the trucking environment. You never know if she will need to call the office, this way she will have an idea who she is communicating with.

Spend as much time together as you possibly can, before you are expected to leave out. This way you can spend a little alone time to talk and know what is expected of each other during your time away on the road.

Figure the cost of fuel, tires and regular maintenance before you lease a semi truck.

Decide if you want to be a local, regional or over-the-road (OTR) truck driver. You can drive a truck locally for companies such as UPS or FedEx, or get regional or OTR truck driving jobs through Roadway or other freight companies.

Apply for other jobs at trucking warehouses and work your way up to driver. Take a job as a dispatcher in a warehouse and apply for driving jobs within the company as they become available.

Search for truck driving jobs at any type of business that uses trucks to transport goods: retail stores, moving companies, lumber yards, utilities companies, overnight shipping companies and automobile dealers, to name a few.

Consider becoming an owner/operator. Purchase your own truck and lease yourself out to trucking companies looking for owner/operators to fill truck driving jobs.

It is already hard being a trucker’s wife, now I am in the middle of moving to another city, and it seems like shit just starts to go wrong. I have a question will you great and wonderful readers stop for a moment and just pray for me, “happiness, unconditional love, no stress, and Oh yeah to win the lottery.” Seriously I don’t care how old this post is stop and pray!

Why does bad stuff happen to good people?

When life seems hopeless we tend to lose focus. Our dreams seem further away. Our kids tend to act up more. Our relationship starts to become a problem. We walk around with attitudes, blaming others for our problems, and we start to point out the faults in others.

Often things happen to us that we simply cannot understand. Most times it is a test of our faith, and a test of our will. In my resist incident as of yesterday! My dumb ass ran into the back of a semi truck. Close your mouth, don’t cry I’m okay! Although my Altima is hurt.

I have been running around stressed out trying to get everything together for the move and my spirit was telling me that I needed to simply slow down, relax, and take a breath let God do something! I believe that God allows things to happen for his reasons, whether or not we understand them, “like put a “semi trunk” in front of you to slow you down.”

We don’t always see the whole picture that goes on in our life. Although God knows, so he sometimes shack things up a bit by removing, or moving things into our lives getting it ready for the perfect opportunity. We go through “ups and downs” to balance out the purpose we are to encounter.

The truth is sometimes our negative situation is really an opportunity for growth. Some events we encounter are negative circumstance; once the problem is resolved you will see how you grew from it.

The truth is life is about choices and decision. It is up to you to make the responsible choice for your life. We are here for growth, our situation, “positive or negative” help us change and grow spiritually.

How to control your thoughts and sustain temptation

When temptation flares think first act last. Let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall. No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it. 1 Corinthians 10:12, 13

I was told by a dear friend, “whether you understand it or believe it or not, what you are doing at this moment will determine where you will be 90 days from now.” It kind of sound crazy at first but in reality now it is pain in clear! Things happen in life in being tempted by a friend, or co-worker it all will end up in disaster in the end.

Being a trucker’s wife can get lonely due to the work schedule you could be separated for weeks or even months at a time. This is where your trust, faith and communication comes in. It doesn’t matter what is going on, never be tempted enough that it will cause problems or affect your long-term future.

Because when your guy is out of the truck, what’s next! Will you both regret your divorce because the grass wasn’t greener on the others side, or will you live your last days being alone because you were to self centered to tell your coworker to get out of your face, because you are happily married.

Make a conscious effort to concentrate on present activity. If what you have been doing is productive, focus on it even more. Tune out the negativity of others this is only a test of your will and bond of your marriage. The question is can you pass the test?

Your first step to independence

Your first step in being a trucker’s wife is to separate the two. Find your own voice in the world. What do you want to do with your life? You can’t set home in wait for your driver to pull up, no you have to keep it moving you have to get out in evolve in the world in make something of yourself. I had to learn this the hard way; it took me 6 years to figure out what was the best decision for me to make to get to the next step of my life. I didn’t want to be known as the trucker wife or the stay at home mom. I didn’t like for people to put labels on me. I created the life that I wanted to have, not others.

I was once told that professional development is about being aware of the decisions that you make, the way you think, and the way you handle different situations. Before I got married I never thought for myself I kind of did whatever I was told, or what I thought would make others happy. Once my husband started working over the road all of this changes, I was pushed very fast to think for myself, make decision on my own, and to start living. I had two daughters at the time to raise, “now its 4 kids to raise” this is when I knew it was time to change or be changed.

I don’t know your situation, however if change is what you need here is a little advice that helped me get started.

• If you think you can be better, then you can be. Think Positive!
• Setting obtainable or realistic goals is imperative to attaining what you need or want.
• Move beyond your past experience, “Past failures and negativity from family.”

What does it really mean to change? To change means you will need to change your habits, your thinking, and to become determined and persistent no matter what.
You can free yourself from bad habits by taking a step-by-step approach; you will achieve results sooner than you think.

To change your thinking make a decision everyday to be positive, to smile and to do the best you can without complaining. Too do this you will need a basket of support.

• An encouraging friend.
• Listen to positive music.
• Turn off the news and put down the newspaper.
• Say affirmation.
• Read positive material.

Whatever you believe will come to be. Don't sit back and wait for it to happen, you are master of your choices, your choices dictate your actions, your actions dictate your day!
Don't hide behind any excuses start moving forward. God will help you!

If your family is looking for a career that pays well and often has great benefits, then finding a truck driver job might be the best thing you could ever do. Truck driving jobs are often readily available you don’t have too worry too much in a recession era; truck driving jobs are still available and ready for the picking.

If you’re expecting to see your husband everyday then a trucking job isn’t for your family. First of all there are many different types of truck driving jobs and depending on the type of industry you go into you will find different job duties and responsibilities.

As a truck driver, there will be many times during your husband career, when he will be miles away from home and his base station he will come across instances when he will have to deal with things by himself, with nobody else to help or support him. This is the time s will your marriage bond will be tested, there will be times when he will call on you for support and to run errands that he can’t do from his truck. If you can handle that, great! Welcome to the world of truck driving.

To get through the trails that come along with the trucking industry it would be wise to speak with people who are actually experiencing the same thing you are going through, talking to your best friend or your mom will not help because the have no clue what you are going through because they see their husband everyday and they can’t possible understand how it feels to be alone to take care of the entire household, independent, stressed, depressed or even lonely. The internet is another, convenient way to get in touch with truckers; blogs and chat rooms are an excellent source of information.

To get an idea of what your husband goes through while he’s over the road I would consider riding along on a trip with him to see what life on the road is really like. This will expose you to the diverse environments and situations that your husband has to put up with on a daily basis.

Life on the road as an independent truck driver surely has its challenges. In order for your marriage to work you will need to build a strong foundation with lots of communication. Love and support each other in reality you both will leave to different lives, although when you reconnect you will have a unique love that is strong and a communication that no one can tear apart. Trust, have faith and communicate!

How to make sure your Truck Driver eats Healthy

A lack of healthy options coupled with busy driving schedules attribute to the overall poor eating habits of many truck drivers. Learn how you as a wife can help your driver make better, healthier food choices without sacrificing taste while on the road.

When you are on the computer, search the area your truck driver is headed too, and look for a truck stops and restaurants that offer salad bars that offer an assortment of fresh fruit, vegetables, pasta salad, and more.

If his only option is fast food, explain to him how to choose better foods for his health, let him know how important it is to eat right and stay healthy while he is over the road. It’s easier for him to do when he is home because you are cooking the food for him, and he will eat whatever you eat; however over the road he will grab what ever is convenient without even thinking about the health benefit. Encourage him to opt for healthier items from the menu. These days, most fast food restaurants offer healthier sides and dishes such as fruit cups, side salads, chili, wraps, and baked potatoes.

Encourage your Truck driver to avoid ordering any super-sized or giant servings – it only fosters overeating. The regular portions should be enough to fill him up. Explain how eating several smaller meals throughout the day instead of three big ones will keep his metabolism high resulting in increased energy, less hunger and snacking, and more calories burned throughout his day.

If all fails and this is too much of a hassle for him install a small refrigerator in his cab and stock up on nutritious, fresh food for him. Grocery shopping for healthy meals is not only more nutritious than eating out; it can also be less expensive. Which mean more money returning into the household he will love this idea just tell him it will go towards a trip at the Home depot.

Marrying for the wrong reasons

Your family is pressuring you into marriage. Growing up every girls dream was to walk down the aisle. Thinking about the moment makes your cheeks glow. Picture yourself in a Cinderella gown and beautiful pumps. My dreams are with stilettos! As you walk down the aisle everyone smiles and says, “Oh, she’s beautiful!” And your prince stands tall watching his princess come to the throne to be by his side.

Meanwhile life goes on! You graduate from high school. You move away and attend college. This is modern day madness. You have your career on your mind and goals to complete. Realty steps in! “You realize you don’t want to get married” you want to focus on your dreams first.

You dread going home on the holidays because your family is constantly on your case. When are you going to settle down and get married, have kids? Meanwhile you have your unhappy aunt tapping you on your shoulder telling you,” take your time… it ain’t what you expect it to be! Then your mom responds. Marriage is what you make it. Looking down at your aunt, she glancing back up at your uncle. You set back, glance at your watch wishing the day was over so you can leave. “And then simply explain, again.” I’m not ready for marriage! “I’m focus on my career, right now!”

Unfortunately! Marriage isn’t for everyone. Marriage can be a beautiful experience. Although, there’s no set schedule for marriage- if it’s meant to happen, it will when it’s supposed to.

If you have your own goals, that you would like to achieve before you take on other responsibility. This is your choice. No one should be pressured into doing something that they aren’t ready to do, or even having second thoughts about doing.

It’s just plain ridiculous to get married because others are constantly pressuring you. Take a stand and do what you believe in, this is your life you control your journey. We have to take time to love ourselves. Only then, will you be able to love others.

Don’t let people or certain types of programming cover up who you really are? In other words, your “true self” should be the only voice you react to. So, no matter what you go through in life, remember that you always have options; marriage and kids could or could not be one of them. It’s totally up to you. You have your entire lifetime to make the decision. Don’t ever make decision under pressure. It is easier to plan for a dream than it is to walk in the dream of others.

He spends too much time at work

You know your husband works for your family, but you wish he had more time to spend with you and the kids. Tell him how much you miss him. The more love he feels at home, the more motivated he’ll be to leave work on time. No matter what, always greet your husband with a smile when he comes home. This is a great way to ward off negativity. If you are constantly whining and nagging him about not being home he will not want to be there. This will only keep him away longer.

Become more supportive, hug him and explain: how you understand how hard he works to provide for the family, but what you really would like more of is him. Being supportive always draw you closer together.

Once in a while, plan to do something special just for him, pay attention to your husband’s interests, if its sports that he loves. Sit down and watch a game with him. If you are lost and don’t have a clue what’s going on. Ask him to explain plays that you don’t understand.

Most husbands really do want to spend more time at home. But they also want to make sure that the household is being taking care of. You can look at it from another perspective at least he wants to work. He isn’t lazy!

It’s important to balance home life and work life. So, if he is having problems in this area help him, don’t push him away by being complicated and making life more frustrated then it has to be. I understand that you are frustrated that he doesn’t see the imbalance. However, nagging him want solve the problem. That’s what most men expect you to do, this way they really don’t have to change because they know all you are going to do is nag. So that gives them a reason to leave or stay gone.

Instead, thank him for his hard work. Don’t complain, about him working late join him on the coach to watch his favorite sports and start treating him like he’s a king. This way you are inspiring him to change instead of telling him.

Feeding his ego, will get him to change his view on the situation, give him time to change, without your correcting his judgment every minute. This way you will stop the resentment in your relationship and start focusing on what matters pleasing each other.

Make the best of your time

One of the hardest tasks in the life of a trucker wife is to have things planned. In only for your husband to call in say he will not be home until the following week. (That just burns my skin.) The difficulty should be viewed as an advantage. Now that’s a novel mindset, isn’t it?

It took me 2 year to get used to my husband schedule. We would have plans to go out of town to visit our parents only to cancel due to the weather in another state that he was in. Or, due to not being able to get loaded or unloaded when he was schedule to do so. For many it takes a long time to get used to change. For some they just don’t have the patient to even stick around long enough to try. Tolerant and understanding aren’t on some people list.

In the trucking industry there will be days when things go smoothly and we are able to go against the wind. And everything goes as schedule. The appointment times are accurate and my husband sets in and out within the hour, easily. On those days we get to see my husband at a decent hour and have plenty of time to go mingle.

And then there will be those days, weeks and maybe longer months when the wind is against them, they will feel like they are right in the middle of a squall. That’s when I get that telephone call with the angry voice, stress out husband with plenty of complaints and I get an ear full of unpleasant words of how this job sucks!

As the storms pass, in it will in time. This is when you as a trucker wife, “need to understand that “hey stuff happens and there is a reason for everything.” Move on with your life; don’t let the storms of the trucking industry consume you. You can weather the challenge. Realize that this challenge comes often. The key is to not let the unexpressed emotions that have become imprisoned within you and are struggling to get back into life, caused you to get upset and have an stormy day within your household.

There have been plenty of times that I have talked to my husband while he was in the middle of a storm of his own. That ending up over flowing into our household because I let my emotion get consume with issues that didn’t concern me personally, in my household got unbalance and out of order due to me getting up set with the kids for no reason at all. They didn’t do anything out of the norm, I was just consume with my husband stress that I didn’t release it out in a timely fashion and the kids got the end of the storm due to me being stressed for no reason at all.

I suggest that you find away to deal with the storms that may occur when you are supporting your husband by listening to his stress. After you hang up the phone, release it into the universe and don’t carry it with you into your home atmosphere, keep your household as pure, balance, and peaceful as possible.

The lonely life of a Trucker's Wife

People don’t have a clue about being a wife of a trucker. They look at you like you got it made. “As if!” Being a trucker’s wife is a hard job. Being a trucker’s wife and a mother on top of that is even harder.

Not only do the wife have to muli-task, housework, laundry, run errands, pay the bills, when and if she receives a check from her husband. But, she also has the task of caring for the needs of their children school work, cooking, after school activities. In if she has an outside job Lord help her.

A trucker wife has to manage and balance the income while her husband is away. She has to do the oil changes on the cars, any repairs that need to be meet, and let’s not forget about that forest that grows in the front yard yes, “mow the lawn.”

She has to be a mom and dad to the children, along with running her husband errands. A trucker wife has to make sure things run as smooth as possible while her better half is on the road.

A trucker’s wife dream of a fairy tale marriage was buried when that eighteen wheel giant pulled up to her front doorstep. Now she has to deal with the love of her life being gone 75% of the time, while she’s home alone taking care of the fort.

She has to deal with the public in their opinion that do not have a clue, nor understand what our way of life is all about. She constantly has to defend her husbands profession and the choices that they both make for their family, each and everyday of her life.

She has to deal with being alone and having to protect her family and keep everything secure so her self and her kids will not be harmed if anyone tries to intrude into their space.

A trucker’s wife has to deal with her parents and In-laws with their comments and opinions. She has to sit back in smile at the family gatherings and on the holidays when her husband is unable to be home enjoying a nice birthday or Thanksgiving holiday. She has to hold her head high and sacrifice celebrating her wedding anniversary and other special occasions on another day of the year.

When her husband comes home she has to put her life on hold so she can enjoy and relax for the 1-2 days her husband is home. Along with satisfying his needs, washing extra loads of clothes and bedding and put up with his some time grouchiness from being tired and not wanting to go out or visit family or events with her. She has to listen to him b**** about the conditions out there on the road and with the shippers, brokers, and customers. She has to be the support system he needs to release his frustration and pain when the time calls for it. She has to listen to him grip about money, how expensive things are on the road, asking can she cut back on something to make it better for this or that reasons. Like her budget isn’t already tight enough.

She has to have trust and faith in her mate, not to accuse him of cheating. A trucker’s wife life isn’t an easy one. It’s a demanding one who has to be independent, strong willed, patient, very tolerant, and understanding. If you really care for your husband you will have no problem with the sacrifices and changes you will have to deal with in the trucking industry.

With trust and communication you will be able to deal with the daily trails and tribulations of the trucking industry. Your marriage will make it!
